The spring term for year 9 looks at landscapes. We have approached this in an expressive way looking at mixed media and exciting use of colour. This project is going to develop into a 3D piece creating a colourful landscape in a shoe box.
The year 9 cylinders project is focused on consolidating the pupils understanding of form and shadow. We begin studying the shape of a cylinder and ensuring a solid understanding of how an ellipse is drawn and how the angle of observation effects the depth of the shape. Pupils develop an understanding of perspective and how to place the cylinders to ensure that they appear to be moving back on the table. Close attention is paid to the direction of light and how this effects shadows.
Following the cylinders project pupils in year 9 have pushed their understanding of perspective by exploring one-point perspective. More able pupils began considering the principles of two-point perspective as well.
